Pop has come into its own like never before. What spices it up though, are the ladies who constantly keep upping themselves. Here we take a look at some of the recent phenomenons and ones who have continued to be a force in this genre.
Lady Gaga
We're sure Katy Perry's parents have made peace with her career and in fact find her tastes moderate and tame. And the credit goes to Lady Gaga. She's the queen of crazy! Her costumes clash with her brilliant music for attention every single time she steps out. Now that's a record. The latest hullabaloo is about the Franc Fernandez meat dress she wore to the MTV VMAs.
But as fans, we prefer brushing that aside and looking forward to her upcoming album Born This Way that she claims to be one of her best works yet.
Jennifer Lopez
The last time JLo made headlines in a big way, was when she grooved with Tom Cruise's avatar Les Grossman at the MTV Movie Awards. And now she's back again and in a bigger way - she's been offered $12 million to be on the judging panel of American Idol.
With Simon Cowell gone will Lopez spice up the events with her diva attitude? She reportedly threw a tantrum even before she signed on. Yipee! This is going to be fun!
Miley Cyurs
The Hannah Montana star may not be of legal age yet, but she's a full-blown diva already. She's been dissingGlee, boyfriend Liam Hemsworth whom she split up with and recently patched up to be spotted canoodling in a car (ugh!), and giving lap dances to Last Song director Adam Shankman. And yes, she's been singing I can't be tamed every chance she gets.
We're waiting for the impending explosion of diva-ness when she's old enough to drink. Sure, she's got talent. But we like her antics and the numerous scandals better.
Beyonce
We love Bee. She's a no-hassle star. She's not getting into fights, not throwing scum at others. She's happily married to Jay-Z and sticks to what she does best - music. The sexy singer walked away with a Moonman at the recent MTV VMA awards for Best Collaboration with Lady Gaga on the shocking hit Telephone. And she's got an album coming up this year and it's all been hush-hush on the topic except for a few tweets from Ne-Yo who's collaborating with her. Fingers crossed!
Rihanna
Jay-Z's Barbadian protege is foremost a style diva than a pop diva. Sure, her music's great. But her style is an absolute hit! Even the most edgy looks are carried off with ease.
As for her diva streak, it doesn't rear it's head unless she's dissed. And wannabe diva Taylor Momsen recently made that mistake.
In an interview with Spin.com, the 17-year-old said, 'People think pop is rock, and the lines are getting blurred. Now Rihanna’s wearing f-kin' leather jackets, and it’s really annoying.' Soon Momsen received a call from Riri and the little girl backtracked her bratty comment.
When the line dividing small screen and silver screen has thinned, there's no reason why making a cameo in a music video should be rare. Here's a look at some of the movie stars who've proved to be raging hits on YouTube.
Eminem's latest album Recovery, took us by surprise on many levels - collaborations, lyrics and Megan Fox!
Yep, that's right. Motormouth Megan Fox of Transformers fame starred as the girlfriend who's having trouble stepping out of an abusive relationship, in the video for Love the way you lie featuring Rihanna. That's a double whammy indeed!
Christina Aguilera
We love this girl! She's got one of the most fab voices in town. But sadly, some of her lyrics are a let down. But she's going to be remedying all that in one shot - she's making her acting debut in Burlesque. The director has lovely things to say about his debutant. Lets hope it all translates on to the silver screen. All the best!
Cher
There's no way this woman can ever be ignored. If it's not her music and stellar acting skills, it's her outrageous do. She famously said at the recent MTV VMAs, ' So, so far I'm the oldest chick with the biggest hair and the littlest costume.' How can you resist that?! Well, she's back to have us in her sway with Burlesque. Oooh whee!
Mariah Carey
Rumour has it that the original dainty diva is four months pregnant. Congratulations! Finally there's a tot on the way to rival Suri Cruise. But does this mean Carey's gonna take a break from music? Well, let's hope not.
Madonna
The Queen of Pop hasn't budged from the top spot despite the rise of young pop stars. She's a master at reinvention. Every sound of hers is different.
But she's taking a mini sabbatical from music and focusing on directing her movie W.E. But the diva in her hasn't taken a break. Apparently she's been giving much strife to the crew and cast. Well, it ain't easy when you're working with the Queen.
Buxom Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame has helped herself to some more fans with an appearance in Broken Bells' track The Ghost Inside. The song is kickass! And so is Hendricks' appearance in the video that starts of with a Club Campari like setting that morphs into outer space where she's exchanging body parts to reach her destination.
Harry Potter star Emma Watson is trying her hand at everything. She's fashioned for Burberry, and now she's also starred in a music video for her boyfriend Geroge Craig.
He's the lead singer of British Indie rock band One Night Only and his special project for Watson came with a twist.
Both Watson and Craig are busy running around on being chased from pretzel shops and then they stop short when they see their reflection. They are in fact dogs!
Catch the video of Say You Don't Want It to check out Emma Watson's new avatar.
We're going classic now. Remember Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in Aerosmiths' Crazy? Yep, that was one hot video! Two young High School girls bunking school and going on a wild ride.
Silverstone came back for one more helping of Aerosmith glory with Cryin'. Those were the days. Sigh!
Saint Angie too had a wild time in a music video. And true to her initial years of zaniness, this video for the Rolling Stones was a warped one.
Angelina Jolie was the centre of attraction in Anybody seen my baby. She took to a dim lit stage in lingerie and gyrated to the tune, while a janitor and an aged vaudeville star revealed themselves to be her as well. See. We told you it was twisted.
This one, we love! Bruce Springsteen's Dancing in the Dark had the hugely popular Friends star Courtney Cox groove on stage with the man himself. We're not sure if it was scripted. But it was a pretty cool sight to see the young tomboyish Cox move to the beat.
Action star Milla Jovovich starred in the video for one of the most grooviest songs by Lenny Kravitz. The song was the first single from his 1998 album 5. It was still some time before Jovovich starred in the h it sci-fi thrillerResident Evil in 2002. But the video for this song looked like it had been shot in the Umbrella corporation's headquarters. That was some foresight on the part director Mark Romanek.
Sarah Michelle Gellar of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame switched sides in the video Sour Girl for Stone Temple Pilots. She went all goth with the makeup. It sure did make us queasy.
Bones star David Boreanaz cut him a slice of the music video pie with Dido's White Flag. It was a nice, restrained performance of a couple apart and pining for each other. Of course, that's nothing close to the real him - a loverat. He cheated on his wife with Tiger Woods' mistress Rachel Uchitel. Tsk! Tsk!
