Born in Russia, Kournikova left Moscow at the age of 9 years to go to college tennis on Nick Bollettieri in Florida, USA. UU.-The same academy that created the champions Monica Seles and Andre Agassi. In late 1995 and was among the best in the world ranking category of youth, shortly after that Martina Hingis entered the professional ranking.
Kournikova became professional in 1996 and competed in her first grand slam at the U.S. Open that year. Anna progressed extremely well, beating several players before finally falling to eventual champion Steffi Graf in the 4th round.
